Medicine (Optometry)

The Department of Optometry is one of the pioneer departments of this institution which has its inception in 1981. It offers a six-year programme in Optometry which leads to the award of O.D. (Doctor of Optometry) degree.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To train Doctors of Optometry with adequate skill and knowledge to examine the eye and make diagnosis
  2. To produce Optometrists that can safely and effectively use therapeutic and diagnostic ocular pharmaceutical preparations.



PHILOSOPHY:
The profession of Optometry offers comprehensive eye care services to all mankind. The eye care services include: detection of ocular and visual anomalies, correction of refraction and binocular vision problems with the appropriate devices, non- invasive management of ocular infections and ocular first aid. The training programme has the philosophy of producing skilled manpower equipped with adequate knowledge to deliver such eye care services in the most ethical manner both on national and International levels.
